On March 30, 1972, the North Vietnamese Army scored a direct rocket hit on the bunker
Crosby and Westcott were working in on FSB Sarge.

Remains not recovered.  Still on Dong Toan Mountain.

They became the only combat fatalities in the four years the 407th RRD ( AKA Det. A, 8th RRFS)  was on the DMZ
.

They were also the last combat fatalities the US Army Security Agency would have during the Vietnam War.
OOn 23 May 2002, the 30th anniversary of the deaths of
Gary and Bruce, HQ, US Army, Intelligence and Security Command, honored their memories by inviting former members of the 407th RRD to participate in the annual Memorial Day Ceremony.
