PHOTO ALBUM 14 - Part 1
Photos submitted by Bobby Biggs, who was a 33C. Bobby says, "I was a member of the team from the 8th that convoyed up (was it in '69?) and converted the Con Thien site to a fixed station from the tracks. I stayed after the "Libertines" left and did Sig. Maint. and kept up the generators. I stayed on the "hill" until just before Lam Son."

"This is the view north from Con Thien in early '70, during a typical fog bank. I think the French called it 'crachin' (sp?) or 'spittle' in English. It made Con Thien a spooky place most of the winter."

"...taken in 1970 as the engineers were building the tower. The TOC bunker in the middle is painted as "TOC - Con Thien" an obvious aeronautical aide for the many "rubberneckers" who choppered up for the view! Behind the hill would be a straight shot to Carroll and Sarge via Rte. 9. We never went up on this hill, it was property of P Company, 75th Rangers. Those guys walked all over the compound carrying live 60mm motar rounds and pushing on the firing button! Different kind of folks these guys."
"Here is a Con Thien Classic! The cover of Life from Oct. 27, 1967, photo by David Douglas Duncan. I hope few of us had seen this before we trekked up to the hill!!!" (Click photo for the story and more pics.)

"We traded rations to the locals at Cam Lo for 'meat on the hoof'. Soul did well foraging around until I went on R&R and returned to find he was shot while in the dump by Marines and presumably became a feast!"
